Burt Family Papers
Collection Overview
This collection consists of programs, invitations, invoices, and a roster of names all connected to the Burt Family of Hannawa Falls, NY and Briggs Family of West Parishville vicinity, though most are addressed to Burt Family. The roster of names is contained within an envelope labeled “Committie” with an 1884 invoice, but the specific committee’s name is unclear. Envelopes are addressed to members of the Briggs and Burt families. Programs are mainly for graduation and commencement ceremonies and list names of graduates, and likewise, give insight into the educational careers of some of the members of the Burt and Briggs families.
Of note, is a program or flier advertising the production of Romeo and Juliet to benefit the Potsdam Military Band and is one of the few materials in the collection not directly related to the family’s education. Invitations are mainly for commencement ceremonies at the Potsdam Normal School or St. Lawrence University.
